What a traditional shave involves

It takes around 20 to 30 minutes and it is not something to rush. Most of the value is in the preparation.

Pricing

Please ask in store or call 0404 686 279 for hot-towel shave pricing. It is not on our published menu yet, and we would rather tell you the correct price directly than list one that might be out of date.

Note this is a different service to our Face Scrub & Hot Towel treatment, which is $30. That one is a facial treatment with a hot-towel finish — relaxing, but it is not a shave. If you want the straight-razor shave, ask for it by name.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

Worth booking if you want the closest shave available, you are getting ready for an event, you have never had a proper barber shave, or you simply want twenty minutes of doing nothing.

Tell us first, or give it a miss, if you have:

None of this is us being difficult. A straight razor takes the hair off at skin level, and skin that is already compromised does not enjoy that.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer hot-towel shaves?

Yes, traditional straight-razor hot-towel shaves. The price is not on our published menu yet — please ask in store or call 0404 686 279 and we will tell you straight away.

Is a hot-towel shave the same as the $30 Face Scrub & Hot Towel?

No. The $30 Face Scrub & Hot Towel is a facial treatment with a hot-towel finish. The hot-towel shave is a straight-razor shave. If you want the shave, ask for it by name.

How long does a hot-towel shave take?

Around 20 to 30 minutes. Most of that is preparation — hot towels, oil and lather — which is what makes a close shave comfortable rather than harsh.

Should I avoid a straight-razor shave for any reason?

Tell us first if you have active acne, broken skin, cold sores, a flaring skin condition, recent laser or peel treatments, or a history of bad ingrown hairs. A straight razor cuts at skin level, which compromised skin does not tolerate well.

Can I get a shave and a haircut in one visit?

Yes. Mention it when you arrive or when you book so we can allow enough time in the chair.
